Helldivers 2 Illuminate Enemy Guide

Understand Helldivers 2 Illuminate enemies, shields, Voteless hordes, Void threats, Wretches, Crushers, and the squad roles that make the front manageable.

What makes the Illuminate front difficult?

Illuminate missions demand several answers at once: enough burst damage to remove shields, enough crowd control to keep Voteless off objectives, and clear target priority when elite units enter the fight. The Void adds mission pressure and the Wretch and Crusher variants introduced with Devoid of Liberty.

The first rule is to avoid tunnel vision. A squad that focuses only an elite can be surrounded; a squad that only clears the horde may leave a major threat active for too long.

Illuminate pressure-response loop

The safest response is a shared priority order that leaves the squad a firing lane while it handles durable threats.

  1. First

    Keep an escape lane

Use crowd control so Voteless do not block movement, terminals, or team fire.

  2. Then

    Pressure the shields

Coordinate sustained burst damage before changing targets behind a shield.

  3. Finally

    Finish the priority threat

Regroup for Wretches or Crushers rather than letting fast pressure split the squad.

Which Illuminate threats should a squad prioritize?

ThreatWhy it mattersSquad response
VotelessLarge groups can block movement and firing lanes.Maintain horde control and leave an escape lane.
Shielded elitesShields delay damage to the unit behind them.Coordinate sustained burst damage before changing targets.
WretchFast, evasive melee pressure can split the team.Stagger it, keep it in view, and regroup rather than kite alone.
CrusherRegeneration and melee reach punish partial focus fire.Mark it, avoid its arc, break the helmet, and finish together.

How should a squad build for the Illuminate?

Bring at least one clear crowd-control option and one reliable way to pressure shielded or durable targets. Plan objective defense as well: reconnaissance terminals and extraction zones become harder when every player chooses only single-target damage.

For a role-by-role weapon checklist, read Best Weapons. The Illuminate Void missions guide adds route and extraction advice for the new operation type.

What is the difference between the Void and a normal Illuminate mission?

The Void campaign introduces reconnaissance, infiltration, and destruction objectives around Illuminate structures, plus secondary extraction opportunities. It is not merely a new scenery layer: squads need a route that protects terminal work and preserves enough resources for the final extraction.

Read The Void for the confirmed campaign structure and Devoid of Liberty for the official update hub.
